Jodie Kluver writes from Westerly, Rhode Island, where she founded The Black Crow (Publishing), LLC in 2024 to bring independent literary works into the world, with a particular focus on empowering women's voices. Her writing draws on nearly four decades spent teaching people to find and use their own voice.

The short version

Jodie Kluver came to publishing after a long career built on words: research papers, grant proposals, course materials, and the quieter work of helping students and clients articulate what they meant to say. She has spent over twenty-eight years in and around the nonprofit sector and nearly forty in education, and across all of it, the throughline has been voice — finding it, trusting it, using it.

In 2024 she started The Black Crow (Publishing), LLC in Westerly, Rhode Island, to give independent literary works a home, with special attention to women writers whose voices deserve wider reach. It is a small operation built on a simple conviction, one she has carried from the classroom into the page: that helping someone discover their voice is some of the most durable work a person can do.

She has said her life's work has been that of a teacher and professor — helping others discover their world and their voice — and that she hopes her own writing, her own voice, reaches readers and proves useful in their personal journey. She describes herself plainly: a mother, a wife, a Mimi to the grandchildren, a professor of many, a friend of some. That same directness shapes what she publishes and how she writes.

Outside the press and the classroom, she reads, writes, gardens, kayaks, and travels — habits that keep her close to the same instinct that drives the publishing house: pay attention, then say something true.
